Apple co-founder and former CEO Steve Jobs passed away on Wednesday, giving in to a long and highly public battle with pancreatic cancer. Apple loses the personality that turned a sinking ship into the most admired company in the world. The world loses one of the greatest visionaries of our time. His wife and four children lose a loving husband and father.
In a letter sent to Apple employees, recently appointed CEO Tim Cook said:
“Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.”
“No words can adequately express our sadness at Steve’s death or our gratitude for the opportunity to work with him. We will honor his memory by dedicating ourselves to continuing the work he loved so much.”
A statement issued by Apple’s board reads:
“Steve’s brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve. His greatest love was for his wife, Laurene, and his family. Our hearts go out to them and to all who were touched by his extraordinary gifts.”
Steve Jobs had a rare talent and the charisma to capture the minds of the people around him and touch the lives of millions. It was his dedication to Apple, and his conviction that he can build something truly great that has given us not just extraordinary products, but a vision that will live on and remain with us for years to come. A vision that teaches us how we can improve our boring everyday lives. We may not have always agreed with him, but we are saddened by this tragic loss and are grateful for all that Steve Jobs has done for all of us.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Steve Jobs’ family in this difficult time.
